As part of the project “One Welfare for the Resilience of Livestock Farms”, INTA Bariloche and the Pulmarí Interstate Corporation held the First Co-participatory Workshop on “Animal Welfare as part of Good Livestock Practices (GLP)” in the town of Aluminé, in the province of Neuquén.
The event brought together producers, technicians and professionals with the aim of providing tools and knowledge on animal welfare, applied to livestock production to promote sustainable livestock systems. The focus centred on the concept of ‘One Welfare’, integrating animal health, good practices and sustainability.
During the meeting, held in May 2025, participants took part in the collective development of the local production cycle, analysing key practices such as sheep shearing and the management of bulls in cattle farming. Experiences and related decisions were shared, encouraging the exchange of knowledge and reflection on traditional practices.
Progress was also made in identifying evaluation indicators that enable the analysis of livestock farming practices in line with Good Livestock Farming Practices with a focus on animal welfare (GLFP-AW), incorporating theoretical concepts and criteria related to animal welfare, traceability and sustainability. The participation-based implementation of these tools helped to strengthen critical analysis and the adoption of knowledge by producers.
At the end of the event, the project’s regional work plan was presented, which includes future training sessions, the selection of producers for participatory initiatives, and the establishment of local demonstration units. Such initiatives reinforce a community-based and holistic approach to animal welfare, which is key to the development of a respectful and efficient livestock sector.
