The town of Basail, in Chaco, hosted a participatory workshop aimed at strengthening regional livestock farming through the "One Welfare" approach.
The activity, carried out within the framework of the FONTAGRO project, brought together local producers and technicians from the Colonia Benítez and Basail offices, both part of INTA, with the aim of validating strategies that simultaneously contribute to improving the productive efficiency and environmental sustainability of livestock systems.
During the workshop, held in June 2025, Good Livestock Practices with a focus on Animal Welfare (BPG-BA) were discussed as key tools for reducing stress in herds and optimizing production indicators, from a comprehensive perspective that considers both animal and human welfare. The dialogue focused on how proper livestock management not only has a positive impact on the quality of the final product, but also substantially improves the quality of life of those who work in the field.
One of the main points of the meeting was the presentation of the partial progress of the regional project linking Argentina, Chile, and Colombia as partner countries, strengthening the exchange of experiences and the joint development of solutions adapted to different production contexts.
In this regard, INTA technicians explained that the implementation of technological innovations proposed by the project aims to strengthen the capacity of production systems to cope with adverse climatic scenarios and promote more resilient livestock farming in the region.
Finally, the exchange allowed for the identification of specific challenges in the territory, ensuring that co-innovation is based on the real needs of the region. Through these types of meetings, the FONTAGRO project continues to consolidate its network of pilot sites, where science and producer experience are integrated to generate long-term sustainable results.
