The Casa de las Culturas in the town of Puerto Vilelas and the El Timbozal, in the El Paranacito area (Chaco-Argentina), were the locations chosen to host the event: “Animal Welfare, Key to Sustainable Livestock Farming.” This activity was carried out during the first year of implementation of the regional project, “Welfare for the Resilience of Livestock Farms,” as part of the territorial actions under the One Welfare concept.
The event attracted more than 50 attendees and brought together producers from El Paranacito, San Antonio, Soto, and Tacuarí, along with participants from towns such as Makallé, Laguna Blanca, San Martín, General Vedia, Las Garcitas, and Colonia Benítez.
The main purpose of the meeting was to explore the direct relationship between animal welfare and production efficiency in local systems. In this regard, the conference provided a forum for exchange where scientific knowledge was complemented by the direct experience of producers in the field, allowing for a new synthesis of knowledge to be achieved.
The technical exchange was led by specialists from INTA (Argentina) at the Colonia Benítez office, with presentations by Dr. Natalia Aguilar, project leader, along with technicians Diego Monteros and Víctor Rusas.
During the knowledge exchange, the importance of good livestock practices was highlighted, not only as an ethical commitment, but also as a determining factor for the viability and sustainability of the southeast of the province of Chaco.
The technicians emphasized improving the living conditions of both animals and the people who work with them, implementing practices aimed at reducing stress in the herd, and strengthening environmental resilience in livestock systems in the Chaco forest through the adoption of ethical practices.
The meeting was the result of a joint effort between FONTAGRO project technical team, INTA technicians, the Municipality of Puerto Vilelas, and the Association of Small Producers of El Paranacito (linked to a United Nations regenerative livestock program). In addition to the presentation of good management practices, attendees received information on management tools from the Ministry of Production of the province of Chaco.
These actions strengthen the mutual learning network in the region, consolidating a more humane and resilient production model.
