On September 2, 2026, the First Workshop “Resilient Maize: Physiology, Water Stress Management and Maize Stunting under El Niño Conditions” was held at AGROSAVIA’s Nataima Research Center. The event brought together maize producers, extension agents, technical advisors, and researchers to exchange knowledge and experiences aimed at strengthening the capacity of the maize sector to address the effects of climate variability and climate change, with emphasis on water management and stress-related phytosanitary challenges. The workshop addressed key topics including the physiology of biotic and abiotic stress, strategies to improve water-use efficiency in agricultural systems, and the relationship between abiotic stress and maize stunting associated with Dalbulus maidis. These discussions provided an opportunity to examine the main challenges faced by producers under water-deficit conditions and climatic scenarios that may favor the development and spread of phytosanitary problems. The event promoted interaction among science, technological innovation, and farmers’ knowledge, highlighting the importance of integrated strategies to improve the adaptation and resilience of maize production systems. The activity was conducted within the framework of the Resilient Maize: Innovation and Sustainable Management of Maize Stunting project, in collaboration with Syngenta, contributing to knowledge generation and technology transfer aimed at strengthening sustainable maize production in Colombia and the region.
