With FONTAGRO's support, researchers from Uruguay, Argentina, Costa Rica, Paraguay, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Venezuela launched the seed fund "Sustainable intensification in dairy farming" (FTG/RF-15069-RG). Coordinated by JosΓ© Luis Repetto of INIA Uruguay, the initiative grew out of agreements reached at the 13th Meeting of Ibero-American INIAs (Guadalajara, 2014) and FONTAGRO's Board meeting in Panama (2015).
With a total investment of USD 68,555, including USD 30,000 from FONTAGRO, the 12-month project will review existing knowledge on the carbon and water footprint of dairy systems and identify the region's research teams and the critical factors for intensifying production sustainably. The first step is a planning workshop in Montevideo, from 30 September to 2 October, where the countries will work together on a regional consensus project.
