Seven years after the Montevideo workshop, the regional dairy network is showing concrete results. The LACTIS project, born from the seed fund "Sustainable intensification in dairy farming", built a baseline for 11 countries, with more than 70% of their production systems characterized, and defined 24 key triple-sustainability indicators: economic, environmental and social. The OLE! simulation model (version 5.3), downloaded 227 times, and the Monitor Lechero 2 tool are now serving technicians and farmers.
The strategies were tested on 17 pilot farms in Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Ecuador, and in the TAMBO ROCA 2030 trial at INTA Rafaela (Argentina). In total, 450 technicians and 200 farmers were trained, and an estimated 391,152 farmers will benefit indirectly. "We work so that our production systems are sustainable and resilient over time, using a single language across the Americas," summed up a participating technician.
