After the baseline, the LACTIS project took a new step. From 23 to 27 September 2019, representatives of 14 institutions met at INIA La Estanzuela (Uruguay) to learn how to simulate intensification strategies and measure their results with environmental and social indicators, guided by consultant Francisco Candioti.
In March 2020, the first training course on the Dairy Systems Simulation Model (version 2019 5.1) was held for technicians from Panama, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Honduras and the Dominican Republic. The free course, taught by Candioti, prepared the technical facilitators who later supported on-farm validation. With this tool, known as OLE!, farmers and advisers can compare feeding, stocking rate and management scenarios and choose the most profitable path with the lowest environmental impact.
