The project “Collaborative research networks on resilient livestock systems” concluded with results that reach beyond the projects that gave rise to it:
- Some 64 participants from 20 countries were trained in sustainable livestock intensification, including representatives of agriculture and environment ministries, farmers and researchers;
- At least 450 people from 25 countries were linked through the platform, including scientists, professionals, decision-makers, farmer associations and business people;
- 30 scientists from 14 countries were trained in research methods for sustainable livestock systems;
- 6 postgraduate theses were completed.
As part of this work, in December 2019 a study was published on the state of the art of research and innovation for the sustainable intensification of livestock systems and climate change adaptation and mitigation in Latin America and the Caribbean. It was prepared by CATIE and coordinated by FONTAGRO, and it includes a database of regional experts that will continue to be updated. On this foundation, the network and its platform continue to drive a shared regional agenda for more productive, resilient and low-emission livestock farming.
