In response to current challenges in the agroproductive sector, particularly the reduction of postharvest losses and the improvement of fruit quality, the FONTAGRO project “Multifunctional Bioprotectors for Postharvest Fruits,” led by Gabriela Tenea and implemented by researchers from Universidad Técnica del Norte, promotes innovative biotechnology-based solutions aimed at strengthening sustainability and competitiveness.
As part of the outreach activities, a technical visit was conducted to Golden Sweet Spirit S.A. in Machachi, where project advances were shared and a collaborative dialogue with the productive sector was established to exchange experiences related to postharvest management.
During the visit, the potential of multifunctional bioprotectors was highlighted as an innovative solution to reduce fruit deterioration, control pathogens, and extend shelf life, while also contributing to reduced use of chemical inputs and promoting environmentally friendly practices.
This activity enabled the identification of collaboration opportunities between academia and the productive sector, laying the foundation for future in situ experimental trials to validate the proposed innovative technology. In this way, the project reaffirms FONTAGRO commitment to sustainable development and the modernization of the agroproductive sector in Latin America and the Caribbean.
