SÁENZ PEÑA (Argentina) — In a strategic advancement for the sustainability of the agricultural sector, the international project "Gran Chaco Ganadero: more calves, less methane" has officially joined PATChaco (Technical Assistance Platform for Livestock in the Gran Chaco). Presented in Sáenz Peña, this alliance aims to leverage the results and innovations validated by the project to extend its reach to producers throughout the Argentine Chaco.
Regional Scaling Strategy
Joining PATChaco is central to disseminating the Technological Innovations (TI) promoted by the project, which is financed by the Global Methane Hub (GMH) and supported by FONTAGRO. Through this network, which includes over 20 organizations such as INTA and various NGOs, the aim is to transform livestock productivity across 43 million hectares.
The project’s technical contributions to the platform focus on:
- Efficiency Protocols: Transferring reproductive management and forage planning practices to increase weaning rates, which currently remain below 50% in the region.
- Emission Mitigation: Implementing models aimed at reducing methane emissions intensity by up to 30% per kilogram of meat produced.
- Technical Assistance Network: Strengthening PATChaco’s goal of training 400 technicians by 2026, facilitating knowledge exchange across the Northern region.
Long-Term Impact
Through this synergy, the project seeks to ensure that its methodologies extend beyond pilot sites and become the standard for the 40,000 producers PATChaco aims to reach by 2035. This collaboration guarantees climate resilience and economic stability for family livestock systems in the second-largest forest biome in South America.
