On April 10, 2026, the virtual event “The Transformative Power of Mycorrhizae” was held through AGROSAVIA TV as an outreach activity aimed at sharing knowledge about the role of mycorrhizae in sustainable agriculture and their contribution to the resilience of agricultural production systems.
The event sought to provide a practical understanding of the importance of mycorrhizae in terrestrial ecosystems, highlighting their role as key microorganisms for soil health and crop development. Discussions focused on their ability to enhance water and nutrient uptake, promote plant growth, and contribute to the sustainability of agricultural systems.
The program featured presentations by María Margarita Ramírez, retired Senior Ph.D. Researcher, and Diana Serralde, Senior Researcher at AGROSAVIA’s Tibaitatá Research Center. Both speakers shared insights into the ecological functions of mycorrhizae and their potential applications in sustainable farming systems.
The presentations emphasized the role of mycorrhizae as natural biofertilizers, biological control agents, and microorganisms capable of supporting soil restoration and conservation. Their contribution to efficient water and nutrient use was also highlighted as a key strategy for addressing climate change challenges and strengthening the resilience of agricultural production systems.
This outreach activity was aligned with the objectives of the FONTAGRO project “Harnessing Bioproducts to Strengthen Climate Resilience”, promoting awareness of beneficial microorganisms and their potential to support more sustainable, productive, and environmentally friendly agriculture.
By facilitating knowledge exchange between researchers and agricultural stakeholders, initiatives such as this help expand access to up-to-date scientific information on biological solutions that can enhance soil health, agricultural sustainability, and climate resilience throughout Latin America.
