The project, implemented by UNAN-León with the Dominican Institute of Agricultural and Forestry Research (IDIAF), Bioversity International, the CGIAR’s Humidtropics programme and the French consultancy Lisode, developed two role-playing games to facilitate dialogue on water: JinotAgua, in Jinotega (Nicaragua), and EsperanzAgua, in Esperanza (Dominican Republic). Based on companion modelling (ComMod), these tools represent the territory, its water sources and its users, and make it possible to simulate different climate scenarios.
According to the 2018 progress poster, 118 people used JinotAgua and 131 used EsperanzAgua. Beforehand, the team carried out 198 surveys of water users and built four conceptual models and four systemic assessments, one for each work area. The learning results are striking: 100% of participants learned about other users’ problems, 97% built a comprehensive view of the water issue in their area, and 91 out of 100 said they had gained new knowledge.
