On the morning of Tuesday, August 4, 2026, within the framework of the 34th edition of the Aapresid Congress, the first in-person meeting of the project 'Carbon Gaps and Cover Crops' took place. Representatives from the work teams of Argentina, Uruguay, and Bolivia gathered to debate, align, and formalize the general objectives, methodological approach, and execution timelines of the initiative. The session began with an introductory round among the attending professionals, followed by a presentation by Dr. Gervasio Piñeiro. During his talk, Dr. Piñeiro expanded on the core aims of the project and detailed the theoretical and conceptual framework supporting the hypotheses and questions the project seeks to answer. In this context, special attention was given to tools for estimating gaps across different soil organic matter fractions, as well as their potential practical applications and impact on production systems. Additionally, a key segment of the meeting was dedicated to defining and clarifying the strategic roles to be assumed by each institution from the participating countries. Likewise, the roadmap and agreed-upon work schedule were established to ensure the timely fulfillment of commitments made at each stage of the project.
