On September 7 and 8, the 1st International Congress on Sustainable Agriculture was held in Bolivia, organized by the Association of Oilseed and Wheat Producers (ANAPO). The event brought together specialists and stakeholders from the agricultural sector to exchange knowledge and experiences on the challenges and opportunities involved in advancing more sustainable production systems.
Throughout the congress, topics included climate outlooks, soil management and nutrition, the adoption of new technologies, drone applications, and market opportunities.
As part of the program, Gervasio Piñeiro delivered a presentation entitled “What Is the Soil Telling Us About the Sustainability of Our Systems? Soil Carbon Gaps, Fertility, and Cover Crops in Argentina and Bolivia.” During his presentation, he shared approaches and experiences related to assessing soil carbon gaps, soil fertility, and the contribution of cover crops to the sustainability of agricultural systems. These topics are part of the work carried out in Bolivia within the framework of the FONTAGRO project Soil Carbon Gaps and Cover Crops.
As a follow-up to these activities, a talk was held on Wednesday at the Bolivian Evangelical University for students from public and private universities. The session provided an opportunity to share knowledge and experiences on sustainable soil management and agricultural production systems, bringing research findings to university students.
Participation in these events helps strengthen the links between research, agricultural production, and higher education, while promoting the exchange of knowledge and tools to support more sustainable agriculture.
