Legumes can fix between 40 and 170 kg of nitrogen per hectare, reducing the need for synthetic fertilizers. They also improve the nutritional value of pastures and can boost animal productivity. The opportunity is huge: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay alone have nearly 300 million head of grazing cattle. Adding legumes is a practical way to intensify these systems sustainably.
