Many countries in the region currently estimate livestock emissions using IPCC default values, which do not always reflect local conditions. The platform proposes measuring four aspects in each country:

• biological nitrogen fixation;

• soil carbon sequestration;

• greenhouse gas emissions;

• animal productivity on legume-based pastures.

With this information, countries will be able to identify mitigation opportunities and improve their national inventories.
