On November 1, the webinar titled “Towards a Sustainable Future: Innovations in Irrigation and Fertilization Management in Quinoa” was successfully held, led by FONTAGRO in collaboration with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and several universities in the region, including the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) – Argentina, the National University of Loja (UNL) – Ecuador, the National Agrarian University La Molina (UNALM) – Peru, the Agricultural Research Institute (INIA) – Chile, Austral University of Chile (UACH), and the University of Talca (UTALCA) – Chile.
This event focused on sharing and promoting sustainable practices in irrigation and fertilization management for quinoa cultivation, a crop of great economic and nutritional importance in Latin America. Experts from the aforementioned institutions presented the project: “Sustainable Management of Irrigation and Fertilization in Quinoa,” which aims to develop innovative software tools that will allow producers to better understand the interaction between water and crop yields.
Among the highlighted tools, a Fertilization Calculator was presented, designed to help farmers accurately estimate the nitrogen requirements, a crucial factor for optimizing quinoa growth. These tools will be available online for free, facilitating access for farmers, agronomists, technicians, and students interested in improving their agricultural practices.
