The contest, organized by FONTAGRO and sponsored by IICA, sought experiences that use science, technology and innovation to advance the bioeconomy in the agro-bio-industrial sector. The winners were CORPOVALLE’s Comprehensive Fruit Growing Program in Valle del Cauca (Colombia); a fertilizer bioactivator additive based on naturalized microbiomes, scaled up industrially by MicroBios S.A. (Paraguay) to boost farm productivity; and “Lago Productivo,” a blue economy strategy for the productive use of the Lake Maracaibo basin by the Zulia State Government (Venezuela). All three cases show how the bioeconomy adds value and makes the region’s production systems more sustainable.
