Between February and April 2025, project teams travelled through the Amazonian provinces of Orellana and Sucumbíos, Ecuador, to survey 181 dual-purpose cattle farmers. The fieldwork was carried out with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) and INIAP. It made it possible to georeference each farm and record data on herds, feeding, pasture management and household economics.
In Peru, UNALM consolidated information on 103 farms in the district of Cuñumbuqui (Lamas, San Martín) from its databases, including assessments with FAO’s TAPE tool. Thanks to the openness of farming families, the project now has a detailed picture of nearly 300 production systems in both countries. This is the starting point for designing supplementation strategies tailored to each context.
