The document, prepared with support from IICA Peru, identifies concrete opportunities: biogas, with more than 500 biodigesters already in Peru; improved cookstoves, with 287,000 installed in that country; and Andean products such as maca, whose Peruvian exports reached USD 28.7 million in 2014, along with quinoa, sacha inchi, chia and purple corn. Key recommendations include creating international research networks on biotechnologies for family farming, strengthening farmer organizations, building skills across the value chain, expanding fair trade and using Andean grains to add value and improve nutrition. It also proposes designing the platform by ecosystem (desert, tropical and Andean) and by subregion.
