On May 19, at the Hernando Bertoni Research Center of the Paraguayan Institute of Agricultural Technology (IPTA) in Paraguay, the Seminar on Genetic Editing was held as a scientific forum aimed at exchanging knowledge, experiences, and advances related to the application of gene-editing tools in agricultural research and development. The event brought together specialists from INTA Argentina, INIA Uruguay, and IPTA Paraguay, consolidating itself as a regional space for technical dialogue and scientific cooperation.
During the event, participants discussed recent advances in gene editing and its potential to strengthen agricultural innovation, improve strategic crops, and accelerate technological solutions to address the region’s production challenges. The seminar provided an opportunity to share institutional capacities, research experiences, and perspectives on the responsible use of these technologies, while promoting technical cooperation among public agricultural research institutions in the Southern Cone.
The seminar also brought together representatives from academia and producer organizations, strengthening the link between scientific research and the productive sector. IPTA authorities in attendance included Lorenzo Meza, National Director of IPTA; Orlando Noldin, Director General of Research Programs; and Lourdes Cardozo, Head of the Molecular Department at the Research Center. The event also featured the participation of Dr. Sergio Feingold, a specialist from INTA Argentina, whose expertise in biotechnology and gene editing provided a key technical perspective for strengthening regional scientific innovation.
