The 22nd Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP22), held in Marrakech, focused on implementing the Paris Agreement and on collaboration across all sectors. There, the ActionLAC platform, driven by Fundación AVINA, organized the side event “ActionLAC: Accelerating climate action through collaboration”, where the alliance between the GRAN CHACO PROADAPT project and the national agricultural research institutes of Argentina, Paraguay and Bolivia, promoted by FONTAGRO, was presented as an adaptation commitment reaching 4,370 small farmers and decision-makers in the three countries.
The Gran Chaco actions were also showcased at an event on multi-level climate governance organized by the European Economic and Social Committee. In addition, the project’s Argentine chapter took part in 2016 in the review of Argentina’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), a multi-stakeholder process recognized as a pioneering practice. According to Mauricio Moresco, Project Manager at ACDI, the joint initiatives of GRAN CHACO PROADAPT and FONTAGRO can be a concrete example from Latin America to the world of collaboration and adaptation at scale.
