The initiative is built on an innovative idea: restoring mining-affected areas with aromatic plants and using their biomass to produce high-value essential oils, natural cosmetics and bio-inputs, with no risk to the food chain. Led by the National University of La Pampa (UNLPam) in Argentina and the Biological Research Foundation (CIB) in Colombia, the project has a total investment of USD 1,362,419, including USD 396,475 from FONTAGRO. It aims to benefit 600 family farmers: 250 in La Pampa province and 350 in the department of Cesar, including members of the Kankuamo Agroecological Producers’ Cooperative.
