The proposal starts with Colombia and Ecuador and seeks to bring in more countries from the region. It sets out four lines of work:
standardizing molecular diagnostics across laboratories;
validating biosecurity protocols and the use of beneficial microorganisms for healthier soils;
evaluating banana varieties and traditional plantains;
training technicians and producers through workshops and online courses.
It is a concrete step toward a region working together to protect the production and jobs that bananas and plantains generate.
