FONTAGRO continues to consolidate its position as a key player in the region

With an initial ordinary capital of $83.05 million, made up of contributions from the Southern Cone, the Andean Region, Spain, Central America and the Caribbean, FONTAGRO’s fund now stands at $102.6 million and has mobilized $138 million in operations.

WASHINGTON (January 30, 2023). The 2022 Annual Report, which presents the activities carried out and the most outstanding results of the period, increasingly consolidates FONTAGRO as a key player in Latin America, the Caribbean and Spain. Founded in 1998 as a sustainable financing mechanism for the development of agricultural technology in Latin America and the Caribbean, it established a forum for the discussion of priority issues of technological innovation and is to date a unique trust fund for co-financing in the region.

Among the most outstanding results, by the end of 2022 it has a total of 187 regional science, technology and innovation projects, of which 58 are active, and which have established 576 pilot experimentation sites, 709 scientific networks and 165 work teams, 48,824 direct beneficiaries, 80,000 people who have had access to training, 687 workshops, around 1,000 publications (with 45 scientific papers published) and a total of 1,254 researchers participating collaboratively in new technologies for the agro-bio-industrial sector.

Today, with 25 years of work in the Latin American and Caribbean region, FONTAGRO reaffirms the purpose for which it was created, while highlighting the growth achieved hand in hand with its Board of Directors, the sponsors Inter-American Development Bank and Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture, other partner agencies including the Ministry of Primary Industries of New Zealand and the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases, the research teams and the members of the Technical Administrative Secretariat, to name a few.

In turn, FONTAGRO continues to strengthen alliances and collaborative work to favor the development and transformation of the agro-bio-industrial sector of Latin America and the Caribbean with National, Regional and International Institutions; Extra-regional Institutions and Universities; Non-Governmental Organizations and the private sector.

FONTAGRO promotes networking through three ad hoc committees: a scientific committee, a knowledge management and communication committee and an international relations committee.
