The recent FONTAGRO webinar titled “Transforming Agriculture: Data and Models for Sustainable Landscape Management” emphasized how the integration of ecological principles into production systems can lead to significant improvements in both sustainability and profitability.

During the event, the need to design multifunctional agricultural landscapes that achieve a balance between production and ecosystem conservation was underscored. Participants had the opportunity to learn about key initiatives and tools that facilitate informed decision-making, such as DAT CREA, a collaborative digitization project that collects information on the management of crop production lots in a homogeneous and traceable database, enabling more efficient and transparent analysis.

Additionally, the TATU Platform (Transdisciplinary for Agriculture and its Transitions in Uruguay) was presented, an innovative initiative that transforms information into accessible knowledge, thus contributing to a better understanding and monitoring of sustainability in the agricultural sector.

The panel featured the prominent participation of Dr. Lucas Alejandro Garibaldi, Director of the Institute for Research in Natural Resources, Agroecology, and Rural Development (IRNAD) at UNRN-CONICET. Dr. Garibaldi shared his experience and vision on the importance of integrating science and technology into sustainable agriculture.

This event has established itself as a valuable opportunity for everyone involved in the agricultural sector, including researchers and decision-makers interested in promoting agricultural practices that respect both production and conservation of our natural resources.
