The event brought together worldwide stakeholders working toward agrifood research and innovation to align research needs with countries’ development priorities
(Washington, D.C., April 14, 2016) FONTAGRO participated in the 3rd Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (GCARD3), held by CGIAR, a worldwide research partnership for a future without hunger, and The Global Forum on Agricultural Research (GFAR) on April 5 to 8, 2016, in Johannesburg, South Africa.
GCARD addressed the issue of “agrifood innovation and research for a sustainable world” within the framework of a global event attended by more than 500 participants from 83 countries. There were multiple consultations with institutions from national, regional, and global agricultural innovation systems, aimed at realigning research needs with countries’ development priorities, to address Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
In this context, FONTAGRO’s Executive Secretary, Hugo Li Pun, PhD, participated in Theme 2: “Showcasing Results and Demonstrating Impact,” in which he shared the results of innovations cofinanced by FONTAGRO projects. He underscored that FONTAGRO proves to be an example of how countries in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Spain have joined forces to establish a self-financing and sustainable cooperation mechanism that leverages resources from other donors and partners to achieve common goals.
