The Fifth General Assembly of the Korea-Latin America Food & Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (KoLFACI) took place in March 2026 in Asunción, Paraguay, bringing together representatives from 15 member countries, agricultural research institutions, and international organizations. This event, organized by the Paraguayan Institute of Agricultural Technology (IPTA) with the support of the Representation of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) in Paraguay, was dedicated to strengthening research, innovation, and capabilities in the agri-food sector. It proved essential for discussing new cooperation opportunities, selecting projects, and reviewing ongoing initiatives, with the aim of increasing the resilience and sustainability of the sector in Latin America and the Caribbean.
During the assembly, the Paraguayan Institute of Agricultural Technology – IPTA, led by Dr. Edgar Esteche, the 4th President of KoLFACI, current President of IPTA, and member of the FONTAGRO Board of Directors, was recognized for its valuable support in organizing the event with a plaque awarded by the Administrator of Rural Development of Korea, Dr. Lee Seungdon. In this session, Dr. Jorge Ganoza Roncal, President of FONTAGRO and Executive President of the National Agrarian Innovation Institute (INIA – Peru), assumed the co-presidency as the 5th President of KoLFACI, marking a new chapter in international collaboration that enhances research and development in the agri-food sector.
