On 17 October, the Statistics Division (ESS) of FAO will organize a webinar with FONTAGRO and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), to present new approaches for the production of agricultural science and technology indicators.

As the agency responsible for the Agricultural Sciences and Technology Indicators (ASTI), a global leading programme in compiling and analyzing agricultural research data, FAO is conducting a series of workshops in selected countries where FAO and ASTI partners will start the ASTI implementation phase. The outcomes of the pilot will serve as a critical input to designing the ASTI survey for the global roll out in 2025.

Eugenia Saini

Executive Secretary of FONTAGRO. Agronomic Engineer, PhD in Agricultural Sciences, passionate about agriculture, food security, and improving farmers’ lives. With 25 years of experience in strategic planning and execution of international cooperation in science and innovation, promoting agribusiness and sustainable development. Her goal is to strengthen competitive public and private strategic alliances that improve governance and increase investments. Eugenia’s professional background enables her to work in multicultural and interdisciplinary teams, sharing knowledge of basic and applied sciences, financial portfolio management, agribusiness, and policy design. She received a Fulbright scholarship at Cornell University and, more recently, the Abshire-Inamori Leadership Academy (AILA) scholarship at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington D.C.

Hernán Daniel Muñoz

At FAO, he is the statistical leader of the ASTI program in the statistics division (ESS) and is a data expert for the Committee on World Food Security. Economist specialized in statistics. His areas of professional specialization are related to the modernization of statistical offices, statistical capacity development, data governance and international relations. He has been part of the INDEC management team between 2015 and 2019 and has worked for statistics offices, international organizations and think tanks.

Juan Fernando Martínez

Specialist in Science, Technology and Innovation at the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA). He has worked in institutions such as the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and the National Planning Department in Colombia. He has been recognized as Young Latin American Leader in Biotechnology by Allbiotech and Youth Champion by the International Advisory Council on Global Bioeconomy. He is a biologist, has a master’s degree in Sciences-Biotechnology and is currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in State, Public Policies and Development.
