In 2026, FONTAGRO selected nine Regional Research, Development, and Innovation (R&D&I)Consortia that, with an investment of nearly US$5 million, will promote more productive, profitable, and competitive agri-food systems with a smaller environmental footprint in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). These initiatives will develop technologies and innovations with high potential for adoption and scaling up, aimed at generating concrete impacts in the regions. The consortia will drive innovations in fertilization, beef production, nutritional quality, artificial intelligence, food security, and agricultural health, with initiatives for scaling up tarwi (Lupinus mutabilis) production, strengthening value chains such as banana production, and disease prevention and management, among other areas.
A trajectory of innovation and scaling
The nine new consortia will join the 215 projects that FONTAGRO has funded throughout its history, consolidating a regional portfolio of initiatives that generate and scale solutions based on science, technology, and innovation to transform agri-food systems in Latin America and the Caribbean.
