Since June 2026, FONTAGRO has been developing the Science Café, a knowledge exchange initiative aimed at the scientific teams of the projects financed by the Fund in Latin America and the Caribbean. To date, 10 weekly meetings have been held, consolidating a space for technical dialogue aimed at peer learning and the generation of new synergies within the FONTAGRO community.

The meetings propose an agile and horizontal dynamic in which researchers share progress on their projects, experiences and scientific knowledge, while making tools, methodologies and learning available to other teams that can be applied in different contexts. The sessions also incorporate spaces for exchange and discussion, which allow us to delve deeper into the experiences presented and identify opportunities for collaboration and generation of knowledge.

The initiative seeks to ensure that the knowledge generated by the projects transcends the teams that produce it and can be used by other actors in the network, strengthening the circulation of experiences and capabilities and favoring innovation processes that are more connected to each other. In this way, the Scientific Café contributes to consolidating an active scientific community, based on collaboration, knowledge exchange and continuous learning.

The meetings have allowed the sharing of experiences and learning linked to the resilience of production systems, the monitoring and use of technologies, climate-smart agriculture, innovation in horticulture, plant health, efficient resource management and other areas of knowledge relevant to the agri-food systems of the region.

As part of the programming, some sessions will soon feature the participation of external international experts, who will provide specialized and complementary perspectives on the topics addressed, enriching the exchange and expanding learning opportunities for participants.

Through these meetings, FONTAGRO also seeks to connect research results with other actors and decision-making processes, favoring the transfer of knowledge and capabilities that can contribute to the development of R&D&i solutions and new opportunities for the agri-food sector.
