Food production has increased significantly over the last 20 years in response to population growth. This phenomenon has had a particularly significant impact on countries in the Americas due to their high agricultural potential. However, maintaining this productivity and fostering its development depend on the effects of climate variability and the strategies adopted to address it. Implementing agronomic practices based on efficient nitrogen management considering the source, rate, timing, and placement (N4Rs) is a key adaptation and mitigation strategy. This approach not only improves nutrient use efficiency but also reduces losses to the environment, including emissions of nitrous oxide, a potent greenhouse gas.
Francisco Salazar, leader of the project "Optimizing the use of nitrogen, higher production and lower impact (N4Rs)," will share the progress and impact of his research.
