On November 1st, FONTAGRO successfully hosted the webinar “Toward a Sustainable Future: Innovations in Irrigation and Fertilization Management in Quinoa,” in collaboration with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and several regional universities, including the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) – Argentina, the National University of Loja (UNL) – Ecuador, the National Agrarian University La Molina (UNALM) – Peru, the Institute of Agricultural Research (INIA) – Chile, the Austral University of Chile (UACH), and the University of Talca (UTALCA) – Chile.

The event focused on sharing and promoting sustainable practices in irrigation and fertilization management for quinoa, a crop of great economic and nutritional importance in Latin America. Experts from these institutions introduced the project “Sustainable management of irrigation and fertilization in quinoa,” which aims to develop innovative digital tools to help producers better understand the interaction between water and crop yields.

One of the highlighted tools presented was a Fertilization Calculator, designed to assist farmers in accurately estimating nitrogen requirements, a critical factor in optimizing quinoa growth. These tools will be available free online, facilitating access for farmers, agronomists, technicians, and students interested in improving agricultural practices.
