Within the framework of the Climate-Smart Livestock project in mapuche communities in Argentina and Chile, a day-long survey of springs was carried out in Colipilli, with the participation of the technical team of the Rural Extension Agency INTA Chos Malal and members of the mapuche Huayquillan community.
The purpose of the activity was to identify natural water sources in the territory, as an initial step to plan improvements in water catchment, conduction and redistribution systems. These actions seek to optimize both the water supply for human and animal consumption and the possible irrigation of pastures.
This survey is a key starting point for future community actions aimed at more efficient and sustainable water management, adapted to local conditions and in response to the challenges of climate change.
The initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy that promotes the resilience of peasant and indigenous production systems through adaptation practices that integrate technical knowledge with local knowledge.
