Grain sellers from National Markets will support the dissemination of iron-rich beans in Panama

Published at: 19 February 2025

The actors in the bean agri-food chain are motivated as allies by nutrition: "marketing is important to promote agricultural business and differentiate food from national production and, above all, its value in food".

Progress is being made in collaboration between actors in the bean agri-food chain and IDIAP for the Project "Regional Alliances for the Dissemination of Iron-Rich Beans for Latin America and the Caribbean", financed by FONTAGRO.

In a positive way, the approach and linkage of the project activities with the Association of Grain and Vegetable Sellers (AVEGRAVE), MERCA Panama and the Ministry of Agricultural Development is achieved, with the objective of promoting and carrying out nutritional marketing studies to differentiate beans with high iron content, specifically the pink grain varieties IDIAP P0911 and IDIAP P1338.

Two studies will be carried out soon:

  • A degree thesis on nutritional marketing with students from the Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics at the Inter-American University of Panama and
  • An evaluation from the marketers' approach during promotion.
