On March 25, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. (Colombian time), the virtual workshop "Database for Breeding Programs - Breedbase" will take place.

To strengthen potato breeding and tackle the challenges of climate change, a virtual workshop titled "Database for Breeding Programs – Breedbase" will be held on March 25, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. (Colombian time).
This event is part of the Climate-Resilient Potatoes – Andespapa project, funded by FONTAGRO and developed through a partnership between AGROSAVIA, Proinpa, Fedepapa, the National University of Colombia, the University of Nariño, the Central University of Ecuador, and the State University of Southern Manabí (UNESUM), in collaboration with ICA and the International Potato Center (CIP-Peru).
The workshop is aimed at young researchers, plant breeders, and project members across Latin America, with the goal of training them in technological tools to optimize data management in breeding programs.
The training will cover best practices in database management for plant breeding, including:
- Data management in breeding programs – Experience from CIP
- Using Breedbase – A digital ecosystem for plant breeding
- Digital phenotypic data collection and storage – Digital field books, PhenoApps, and integration with PotatoBase at CIP
This workshop is part of a broader international cooperation strategy aimed at promoting advanced databases to improve decision-making in plant breeding. With these tools, researchers and farmers will be better equipped to develop more resilient potato crops, supporting sustainable production in the face of climate change.
