On November 12, an agreement was finalized with the Mapuche Calfucurá community, located in the Barda Negra area in the province of Neuquén, Argentina. This territory is characterized by plateaus and escarpments that are part of the Patagonian region, where the community has established its settlement, adapting to the geographical and climatic conditions of the area.
The agreement aims to promote sustainable development while preserving the community's cultural identity. Key points of the agreement include:
- Clear objectives: Specific goals were defined to ensure a strategic approach.
- Transparency: Precise roles were established for all parties involved.
- Innovation with identity: Innovation Units (IUs) were selected based on technical and community criteria.
- Active collaboration: Community members were designated as responsible for implementing the IUs.
- Consensual communication: Every step of the project will be communicated, respecting local voices and perspectives.
One of the most notable advancements under this agreement was the creation of an Innovation Unit to monitor livestock production, covering both winter and summer grazing. Additionally, a Community Innovation Unit was established to address solutions for climate-smart livestock practices, benefiting the entire community. These efforts will focus on key spaces such as the ruca (community house), the health post, and the school.
The second phase of the project, scheduled for late January, will focus on characterizing and defining specific technologies to be implemented. This agreement not only represents technical progress but also serves as an example of how collaboration between communities and external projects can foster inclusive and respectful development.
