On February 28-29 and March 1, 2024, the second project workshop was held in Costa Rica. The event brought together, both in person and virtually, experts from various parts of LAC, particularly Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and Uruguay.
The second workshop of the FONTAGRO project "Opportunities for carbon sequestration in soils of Latin America and the Caribbean" was held on February 28-29 and March 1, 2024, in Guápiles, Limón Province, Costa Rica.
The event brought together, both in person and virtually, experts from different parts of Latin America and the Caribbean, particularly from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and Uruguay.
The main objective of this workshop was to enhance local capacities for continuous monitoring of soil carbon stocks.
The first day of the workshop was dedicated to the annual meeting of the Fontagro project: the leading researchers from each country shared the progress of their research activities within the framework of the project. This exchange provided an opportunity to learn about the overall status of the project, both in technical and financial aspects.
An outstanding contribution to the workshop was the presence of a specialist in soil and resource management in agricultural systems, FAO consultant Dr. Guillermo Peralta. This expert offered practical training on the geospatial processing of information for soil monitoring, providing valuable technological tools for the development of research in each country.
The event was highly productive, with fruitful exchanges among the participating countries. The tours and field visits made it possible to learn about the different characteristics of some of Costa Rica's soils and their main production systems and realities, thus meeting the objectives set to strengthen knowledge in this important scientific field.
