PARTICIPATION IN THE XVIII ANNUAL TECHNICAL FOLLOW-UP WORKSHOP ON FONTAGRO PROJECTS

Published at: 06 June 2023

From June 5 to 7 in Madrid, Spain, the XVIII Annual Monitoring Workshop and the 25th Anniversary of FONTAGRO were held, an event where researcher Mónica Botero Londoño presented the project.

As part of the celebration of FONTAGRO's 25th anniversary and the knowledge week, which took place from June 5 to 7 of this year, five thematic panels were held. One of them, panel 1 entitled "Together for greater resilience to climate change", was the space where researcher Mónica Botero Londoño shared the progress of the Nanofertilizers in Soil and Nitrous Oxide Emissions project. This project, developed in collaboration between Colombia and Ecuador, aims to promote sustainable agricultural production through the manufacture and application of nanofertilizers in crops. These nanofertilizers seek to improve soil health, and crop quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

During the presentation, some of the results obtained to date were highlighted, including:

  • 11 degree theses.
  • 5 presentations at academic events.
  • 10 technical assistance to farms.
  • 3 photogrammetric flights.
  • Training of 100 producers.
  • Creation of 5 dissemination videos.

In addition, the technological solution to be developed during the execution of the project was shared, which includes:

  • Titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and zeolite nanofertilizers with suitable properties to improve fertilization efficiency.
  • Formulations of balanced fertilizers with the addition of nanofertilizers, seeking a sustainable agricultural production scheme.
  • Technical support, training and socialization of the technologies implemented.
  • Use of aerial vehicles to estimate the nutritional quality of the crop.
  • Promotion of the friendliness of nanofertilizers through ecotoxicological tests.
  • Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
