The students Angelly Cárdenas and Cindy Cáceres with the mentorship of the researchers Julián Botero L. and Laura Yiceth Sanabria developed the thesis for the degree of Zootechnician at the Málaga branch of the Universidad Industrial de Santander.

This work was focused on the evaluation of the effect of the addition of fertilizers, rooting agents and ZnO nanoparticles on root development, biomass production, nitrogen use efficiency and carbon sequestration in a Tithonia diversifolia crop.

It was found that the application of ZnO nanoparticles together with a balanced fertilisation had a positive influence on plant growth, aerial biomass production, nitrogen use efficiency and carbon sequestration.

The results obtained show that ZnO nanoparticles are a viable alternative for obtaining high nutritional quality fodder and that they contribute significantly to mitigating the effects of climate change.
