On May 21-23, Dr. Eugenia Saini together with the Director of the EEA INTA Bariloche, the Project leader and the teams of the Rural Extension Agencies (AER) of El Bolsón and Jacobacci were able to evaluate the actions in the territory.
On May 21, Dr. Saini visited the AER INTA El Bolsón and together with the technical team visited the La Mosqueta Cooperative, where together with the cooperative's authorities she learned about the problems and progress in the collection and sale of wool and innovation in irrigation systems to improve fodder production. He then visited a group of agro-ecological producers, who sell fresh, quality products directly to consumers and the project supported them with improvements in the irrigation system and technical assistance.
On May 22, he visited INTA's Experimental Field in Pilcaniyeu, Río Negro. There he met with the administrator and the researcher in charge of the management of livestock protection dogs. He was able to observe in-situ the imprinting of puppies and the effective work of adult animals in protecting sheep from predators. He also visited the most important Angora goat herd in the country, which produces reproducers of high genetic merit that are then delivered to family Mohair fiber producers.
On May 23, he met with the team of the AER INTA Jacobacci and with different communities of the Mapuche people, with whom several technological innovations are being carried out, such as sheds for livestock management, food safety, water management, depredation, joint sale of certified wool under PROLANA standards, among others. Then they visited the establishment of a small livestock producer of the Nehuen Co indigenous community, where a dual purpose shed was built for livestock management against inclement weather and as a shearing shed under PROLANA standards (international quality standard), as well as a greenhouse for food security and local flower production.
Finally, the day ended with a visit to a community fattening of old sheep by producers from the Calibuí cooperative with technical assistance from the project through professionals from the AER Jacobacci. The objective is to reduce the load of the fields through the extraction, value addition through fattening and direct sale of unproductive animal categories to local butchers.
