Sheep mange is one of the most widespread parasitic diseases among sheep flocks and generates great economic losses.
For some time now, it has had a negative impact in the Los Menucos area, because it is widely distributed and producers are concerned about the difficulties in carrying out effective control.
In this sense, it is necessary to take up again the main routes of contagion, prevention methods and main control strategies at the establishment and community level (among neighboring neighbors).
Thus, within the framework of the FONTAGRO project: "Adaptation to climate change in family livestock farming", the Los Menucos Technical Office of the Jacobacci Extension Agency of INTA held a knowledge updating workshop in Los Menucos together with the Animal Health Area of EEA INTA Bariloche.
Producers from the area of influence of the INTA Los Menucos Office participated in the event, where the last treatment applied was analyzed by means of a survey made individually to each producer.
From the analysis of the surveys, technicians and producers identified the main problems at the time of each treatment, whether injectable or by immersion baths.
Finally, different strategies were proposed that the producer can apply in a simple way in order to keep the disease under control, among them the coordination of treatments with neighboring neighbors, correct applications with dosages according to body size, total animal grouping, etc.
