On October 28, animals were supplemented and lambs were weaned in Sierra Colorada.
The drought events that have occurred in the last year mean that farmers must use new technologies that allow them to recover the body condition score of the ewes in order to achieve good lamb weaning rates.
Within the framework of the FONTAGRO project "Adaptation to climate change in family livestock farming", the Los Menucos Technical Office of the Jacobacci Extension Agency of INTA organized a working day on animal nutrition in a demonstration field of the Project.
The purpose of the workshop and of the work in general with the farmers of the region is to implement and evaluate the results of technological innovations that improve productive efficiency by adapting the systems to climate change. On this occasion, producers were trained on the nutritional management of sheep and the use of early weaning as a management tool to reduce the sheep's demand for feed and water and thus achieve their recovery for the next production cycle.
Neighboring producers, affected by the decrease in rainfall and the consequent lack of fodder and water in livestock farms, participated in the event.
