On April 16, 2021, a group of producers from Los Menucos met in the town of Comallo, together with representatives of the Amulein Com de Comallo and Calibui Cooperatives based in Ingeniero Jacobacci.
The purpose of the meeting was to plan the 2021-2022 harvest for the commercialization of meat and wool.
In this sense and within the framework of the FONTAGRO project "Adaptation to climate change of family livestock", the INTA Extension Agencies in Ing. Jacobacci and Bariloche promote the joint sale of wool and meat using short marketing circuits. In this way we promote that the products reach the consumer in a more direct way from the producer to the consumer, improving the producers' margins and bringing a quality product to the consumers.
In the first stage, the 2020-2021 harvest was analyzed, which had its particularities due to COVID-19 restrictions, and the needs of Los Menucos producers were raised. In this sense, it was decided to rent a shed, since they did not have their own facilities for this purpose. This place would be used as a collection center, where each producer is in charge of transporting his wool batch, the batch is received and the total kilos are determined, broken down into fleece and non-fleece wool.
The rental cost is initially contributed by the Calibui Cooperative and is then deducted as a marketing expense in the first liquidation.
On the other hand, two sales were planned, one to be held in December 2021, where mainly prepartum shearing wool will participate and another one in February 2022 where postpartum wool will be marketed in order to avoid delays in the producers who perform the shearing.
As for meat, a joint sale of lambs in December was planned for the Bariloche Community Market, subject to the slaughtering schedules provided by the meat packing plants: Carnes Rionegrinas in Bariloche and J. J. Gomez in Alto Valle de Río Negro.
At this point, marketing costs and price structure were estimated in order to reduce costs and improve the individual income received by the small producer.
