In the Conservation and Participatory Research Nuclei of the Root to Food project, 9 varieties of native potatoes and 19 varieties of mashua (cubio) were established for evaluation and multiplication.
In the framework of the project "Root to Food", Conservation and Participatory Research Nuclei (NIP) of native potatoes and Andean tubers were established in two municipalities of Colombia (Cogua and Soracá). In these spaces, farmers, along with researchers and technicians from the Javeriana University and the PBA corporation were able to evaluate the behavior of 9 varieties of native potatoes and 19 varieties of mashua.
In the months of December (2021) and February (2022), these tubers were harvested. For native potatoes, yields greater than 10 tons/ha were obtained, values higher than those reported in the area.
The seeds obtained during this process is the basis for the reintroduction of these varieties in the departments of Cundinamarca and Boyacá,as well as for the establishment of new nueclei of participatory research, in which it is intended to evaluate their behavior in agro-ecological arrangements.
