Assessing sustainability - Session 2

In order to conceptually introduce professionals in this topic and provide tools to evaluate the sustainability of the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) technology in citrus fruits through the Ambitec-Agro methodology , FONTAGRO s Project “Prevention and control of HLB in family citriculture in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia”; and INTA Argentina Structural Project “Sustainable intensification of fruit chains” (INTA 2019 portfolio) organized the afore mentioned training cycle “Evaluating sustainability”.

The first two meetings took place on October 28th, and on November 4rth. The next meetings are scheduled for November 11th and 18th.

After a short welcome by Silvana Giancola, researcher at INTA CIEP and FONTAGRO s project leader, keynote speakers presented some Sustainability Assessment Methods and a number of INTA evaluation experiences developed by INTA Argentina regarding the fruit sector.

Moderate by Laura Salvador from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the National University of Córdoba, Argentina, keynote speakers Elena D’Angelcola (Monitoring and Evaluation Division, INTA); Ricardo Mika (INTA EEA Concordia); Daniel Vázquez (INTA EEA Concordia) and Silvia Tapia (INTA EECT YUTO) presented methodology, tools and case studies.

Next sessions:

Meeting 3: Introduction to the Environmental Impact Assessment System of Technological Innovations - Ambitec-Agro;

Meeting 4: Adaptation and implementation of the Ambitec-Agro system in order to conduct field studies regarding  adoption of good practices for coexistence with the HLB of citrus in family farming.
