Biography

VIVIANA LORENA BECERRA VELÁSQUEZ is an Agronomist from the Faculty of Agronomy at the University of Concepción in Chillán. She obtained her Master of Science degree with a specialization in Genetics and Plant Breeding from the University of California, Davis, USA.

Her professional experience includes teaching courses in Genetics, Plant Breeding, and Crop Science at the Faculty of Agronomy at the Chilean Adventist University. Additionally, during her time at Davis, she was a PGR (Postgraduate Researcher) between 1990 and 1993 in the Agronomy and Pomology Departments at the University of California.

Since 1998, she has been a Researcher at the Biotechnology Laboratory, INIA Quilamapu, with 25 years of experience in Genetics, Plant Breeding, Agronomy, and Biotechnology. She is currently the Head of the Biotechnology Laboratory at INIA Quilamapu, Chillán, from 2009 to 2020.

Her research areas have been: 1) Plant Biotechnology in various species (1998 to present) (Micropropagation, Temporary Immersion Systems, and Molecular Markers), 2) Rice Breeding (2010-2015), 3) Evaluator for Fondecyt, CORFO, FONDEF, ISI Journals (Crop Science), among others, 4) Seed Production and Conventional Crops.
