Merini

Biography

Luciano J. Merini is a Biochemist, graduated from the National University of the Northeast, a Specialist in Toxicology, and holds a PhD in Biochemistry (with a focus on Biotechnology) from the University of Buenos Aires.

He currently serves as an Associate Researcher at CONICET and is a member of the Advisory Council for the National Program on Science and Justice in the area of Toxicology. He is an adjunct professor in charge of the Environmental Chemistry course at UNLPam and a postgraduate instructor in the Biotechnology Master’s program at UTN Medrano; the “Pesticides and Environment” module in the Specialization in Integrated Pest Management in Extensive Crops (UNLPam), and Ecotoxicology in the Environmental Management degree program at UNNE.

His research focuses on designing biotechnological strategies (rhizo/phytoremediation) for the recovery of contaminated soils. He has published his research in international scientific journals and book chapters, and has participated in several environmental monitoring campaigns in Antarctica and plant bioprospecting in mining areas. He currently leads the FONTAGRO project (ATN/RF 16110 RG): “Development of regional microeconomies in the production of essential oils harvested in mining soils,” which was recently awarded 3rd place for sustainable leadership in 2018 in the “Innovative Idea” category by the Argentine-British Chamber of Commerce (CCAB).
