Wheat expert, recipient of the International Award for Services to Agronomy, friend of Dr. Norman Borlaug, and former CIMMYT researcher, these are just a few of Kohli's titles. Recently, he added the title of doctor honoris causa to his list, since on May 18th, the University of San Carlos in Paraguay granted him this recognition for his contribution to the development and dissemination of wheat varieties in that country.
Kohli was born in Peshawar, India, and grew up in a family dedicated to the sale of agricultural products. He obtained a PhD in Plant Genetics from the Agricultural Research Institute of India, and later, in 1970, he came to CIMMYT-El Batán where he worked with Norman Borlaug. He lives retired in Paraguay
