Agricultural Engineer from the Central University of Quito-Ecuador. Master in Plant Pathology at the Postgraduate College, Chapingo-México. Agricultural Researcher of the Department of Plant Protection of the Santa Catalina Experimental Station of the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIAP), from 1980 to 2010; Head of the Department of Plant Protection of E. E. Santa Catalina-INIAP, 1996 to 1999; Director of the University Center for Research, Science and Technology (CUICYT) of the Technical University of the North (UTN), October 2013 to October 2014. He taught at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the Central University, Technical University of Ambato and at the UTN. Author and director of several national and international projects. He has participated in projects with the International Potato Center (CIP), the Swiss Cooperation for Development (SDC), Cornell University-United States; in integrated pest management (IPM) of potatoes with the BID-CIP, in IPM in Andean fruit trees with Fontagro, Corpoica and Fonaiap. His main research is related to the development of integrated management systems for the potato cyst nematode, potato late blight and diseases and nematodes of naranjilla, tree tomato, table tomato and rose crops. Research Professor of the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences of the UTN until his retirement in June 2015. Currently he is dedicated to writing books on integrated management of pests and diseases in potato, tree tomato, naranjilla, table tomato and teaching texts in this matter.
